How does this used Yamaha Baby Grand Player Piano stack up to their new Yamaha C1x… for $30,000 less?
For decades, there has been continued debate about Yamaha’s different piano series. Originally, all grand piano models started with “G,” likely for “grand.” Similarly, their upright pianos started with “U.”
As the “C” series (stands for conservatory, based on their website) was introduced, they seemingly took the C1 (today’s C1X) design and found some ways to cut back on costs, many of which were cosmetic, although there are some interior differences.
Where is the value?
The Yamaha GH1 and C1X pianos are both exceptional instruments. However, when comparing the two, the GH1 may represent a much better value than the C1X at its hefty retail price of nearly $40,000.
Both pianos are built in Japan and both are based on the 5’3″ scale, so they’re the same size. The GH1’s bass register has warmth and depth, while its clear and vibrant treble ensures clarity and brilliance in the upper octaves.
Yamaha’s renowned craftsmanship is evident in the GH1’s keyboard action, which some say offers a smoother and more responsive feel compared to the C1X. We have regulated and calibrated this GH1’s action mechanism to provide a natural and fluid playing experience, allowing pianists to achieve greater control and expression over their performance. Whether playing delicate passages or virtuosic runs, this GH1’s responsive key mechanism ensures effortless articulation and dynamic control, where most of the C1 and C1X models we have auditioned are a bit “tighter.”
There’s More to Enjoy
Furthermore, the GH1 incorporates advanced technological features that further enhance its versatility and functionality. With a Pianomation 2000CD system installed, this piano is ready for your next party, happy hour, or date night. In contrast, the C1X similarly equipped approaches a $60,000 price tag. Even discounted to their typical Costco price, it could be difficult to justify the price difference.
