This is a good comparison of modern versus vintage Steinway cabinet features.
The 30’s era piano’s plate is also distinctive, with embellishments around the plate’s perimeter and holes. Patents are also cast into the plate. When this piano was rebuilt, we also replaced the soundboard decal using a period replica.
Modern Steinway’s also have less embellished plates, no patent names and no soundboard decal.
The 1930’s model has a cap along the top of the rim and legs with routed frames.
The new Steinway is more sleek – sans rim cap and routed legs.
